Snow & Ice
The land of the midnight sun & ice
About 1% of Norway’s landmass is covered by glaciers. The largest glacier is Sogndalsbreen glacier, which is situated on the west coast. Some glaciers are accessible by car and ski lift, but most of the 2534 glaciers in Norway are not easy to reach. Shooting on a glacier often requires helicopter transportation and permits from municipality and/or nature park authorities.
During winter months from November until March, 95% of Norway is covered by snow and ice. In the spring, when mountain roads are being cleared of snow, you can easily access large mountain plateaus covered in deep snow.
On Svalbard, above the Arctic Circle, glaciers are easily accessible by snow scooter from the hotels in Longyearbyen. You can shoot in the midnight sun in a truly unique arctic environment covered by snow & ice.
